About ‘mis en possible’

Welcome to mis en possible!

This website is my food blog. Before, food was a section on my personal website, but when coverage of my daughter’s adventures through growing up took over at a post rate of about 5 to 1, I decided to streamline the themes and just add another site.

This is the result.

Who am I?

I’m Todd McKimmey. Father, husband, software engineer, former musician, resident of Austin, Texas, and sometimes I like to cook.

Cooking is my third passion beyond my wife and my daughter. Chopping onions is a Zen ritual for me. Setting up the perfect braise is how I relax. Inventing new recipes is, well, my fun (as well as my frustration). I cook; I do not bake. Measuring cups and scales in all but the rare application elude me. My wife, on the other hand, is an accomplished baker in her spare time. Together, we make a good team. To date we have put on more than a dozen 5-10 course meals for a number of people.

I also spend a great deal of time reading about ‘the craft’ — the professionals, the techniques and the tricks of the trade. Learning, imitating, and trying to educate myself on the best way to do things. My wife laughs when I plate food. So it is, so it is…

But then again,  I’m not beyond eating a fast-food burger or the occasional microwaved meal.

What about this blog?

This blog will cover food in many forms: restaurants (local to Austin), cheap food, attempts at high cuisine, experimental stuff, wine, ingredients, recipes, food photography, etc. I claim no professional ability to either cook or write, so this site will be for my amusement and the amusement of an occasional reader or two.

I hope to, over the coming months, establish a few features here and there that are regular. I’m not sure what these will be yet, but as the site develops, I have every intention of highlighting the most popular sections with regular entries.

Did the world need another food blog?

No. But I did. *grin*

Thanks for stopping by. I hope you enjoy my food world.
